How to choose a winter jacket you like

Winter jackets are not easy. Not only does it keep the owner warm and dry in all kinds of bad weather, it also looks good, isn't bulky or too restrictive, and is strong enough to withstand all kinds of winter fun.

For all these reasons, and perhaps more, it takes some thought to choose the perfect winter jacket. However, while the market for jackets offers a dizzying choice, it's really not hard to narrow down the number to one (or two) that's right for you. Isolation

Speaking of "winter jackets", it is no exaggeration to say that the image that comes to mind falls into this category. That's because the main function of winter jackets is to keep us warm (at least in part this is true), and we tend to think that there is nothing that keeps us warm like insulated jackets...

Insulated jackets may not be the best option for every outing, but it's no exaggeration to say they're perfect for many outings. Therefore, you should always find one of these locations on your coat rack.

However, there are still some considerations. For one, you need to consider how much insulation you need. Actually, this boils down to two questions.

How active can you be?

In other words, very different jackets are needed for high-intensity activities (such as cross-country skiing) and low-intensity activities (such as ice fishing) in relatively warm temperatures during the Arctic blast. ..

Ultimately, you need to decide whether to use synthetic insulation or down insulation. In short, synthetic fibers generally win the cost competition, but down is generally lighter and provides more insulation (and therefore warmth) for a given weight. Our advice: If cost is your main consideration, or you don't need maximum warmth, choose a composite. Choose if maximum insulation performance in cold climates is paramount.

Waterproof and Breathable

One of the great advantages of modern fabric technology is the jacket's ability to shed rain while allowing water vapor (also known as "sweat") to escape. Waterproof and breathable jackets come in many forms, but are typically lightweight, non-insulated or lightly insulated, designed to be combined with secondary insulation when extra warmth is needed. It is provided in the form of a layer (see Layer Post for more information). As with any jacket designed for aggressive use in changeable conditions, choosing a jacket that is perfectly waterproof and breathable results in two main considerations.

What kind of weather is it?

If you're moving in a changeable climate, look for a lighter, more compressible jacket that's easier to pack so you can put it on and take it off as needed. On the other hand, if it is raining and the sky is solid as a brick, it is better to choose a more solid one.
