Clothing is Very Important When Hiking!

Regarding hiking, you may think that walking is an innate ability and does not need to be learned.

In fact, if you want your hiking to be more fun and safer, then how to plan an itinerary, how to prepare equipment, food, and how to find accommodation are all crucial.


* Clothing

  • Jackets,shirts and pants (necessary for outdoor activities, windproof, waterproof, breathable and wear-resistant)

  • Fleece jacket (mainly windproof and warm)

  • Sweat-wicking underwear (to keep the body dry after outdoor exercise)

  • Hiking and mountaineering shoes (strongly adaptable, wear-resistant, waterproof, preferably mid-to-high top, which can protect ankles)

  • Light sports and casual shoes (suitable for general outings or driving)

  • Sports sandals (can be worn as slippers, or worn directly when hiking in summer)

  • Sweat-wicking socks (preferably made of COOLMAX material, worn with GORE-TEX shoes, which can wick away foot sweat and prevent frostbite in winter)

  • Ordinary sports socks (cotton, comfortable to wear)

  • Snow cover (very useful on snowy or muddy roads)


* Hat, gloves, glasses

  • Sun hat (round-brimmed, baseball cap style, whatever you like, as long as it can block the sun)

  • Fleece hat (mainly for warmth)

  • Thin gloves (mainly for convenience of activities, such as taking photos, etc.)

  • Thick gloves (mainly for warmth)

  • Glasses (sporty ones are better, their main function is sun protection, they can also be used to look cool)

The demand for outdoor clothing is directly related to its use. Many people often focus on the expensive jackets in outdoor stores, but ignore more basic clothing.



* 3 layers of attire for professionals


Modern mountaineering theory proposes the concept of three layers of clothing: an inner sweat-absorbent layer, a middle thermal layer and an outer protective layer.

Underwear is required to be sweat-absorbent, breathable, quick-drying, and warm. Generally choose coolmax underwear that absorbs sweat quickly. Coolmax underwear is relatively expensive, and you can also choose non-cotton chemical fiber underwear as an alternative.


The thermal insulation layer is generally made of fleece. Fleece is a fabric that is relatively good at absorbing sweat, quick-drying and keeping warm. Some fleeces are also windproof. Ordinary fleece is cheaper, but some big brands have windproof, waterproof and other functions, and the price is much more expensive.


Jackets are generally used as the outermost layer. Jackets were first used when climbing high-altitude snow-capped mountains. When approaching the peak, one would take off the down jacket, remove the large backpack, and move forward lightly wearing only a jacket. This is how it got its name. Due to harsh natural conditions, the outer layer needs to be windproof, waterproof, and breathable.

Three-layer clothing is proposed for mountaineering in harsh environments, and ordinary outdoor enthusiasts do not necessarily have to deliberately imitate it. For example, underwear, using some ordinary chemical fiber clothing can sometimes achieve similar effects. Just remember to try not to wear cotton-based warm fabrics when outdoors.

When purchasing outdoor equipment, you must remember that equipment is for use, not for showing off, and you do not necessarily have to buy equipment specifically for outdoor activities. You need to buy equipment bit by bit and according to your needs.
