Now that the temperature is finally starting to drop, let's get rid of the warm clothes that unnecessarily occupy the space in the closet due to the warming. Throwing all your cold season clothes into the trash can or space bag may be an easy solution, but when next year's cozy winter date comes again, it won't be in your favor in the future. Improper storage means that you need to buy back a stapler eaten by a moth, or (hopefully) struggle to get a funky smell from an expensive coat.

Get to work now, wash your winter coat, scarf, hat, boots, gloves, dry them thoroughly, store them properly, and make sure you're ready to keep your warm clothing warm when needed.

Store winter clothes

When winter is finally over and warm weather has replaced it, it's time to properly clean and store jackets in cold weather. Not only does this protect you from premature wear, but with proper storage you can wear directly from storage in the fall in case you are accidentally hit by a sudden coldsnap.

Cleaning: Make sure the label contains the precautions and wash thoroughly before storing. Wool, leather and suede need to be professionally cleaned. Check all pockets to make sure there are no loose pens, keys, cough drops, etc. that could damage the coat. Then tighten all snaps, buttons and zippers.

Thick draped coat: If you have a dry-cleaned coat, remove the protective plastic bag. Use sturdy, wide hangers that can easily support the weight of the coat, and cover the coat with breathable clothing pockets to protect the coat from mold and mold.

Folding and Boxing: Lightweight coats should be neatly folded and lightly placed in a plastic storage box so that the bottom is the smallest and the top is the smallest. Mark the content in the box. Believe it or not, fluffy coats should be stored in vacuum-sealed bags to reduce storage space. When you open the bag in the fall, the coat will swell naturally.

Storage location: Store the coat in a cool, dry, dark place, ideally at a stable temperature of about 65 degrees. If you don't have a closet suitable for hanging a thick coat, gently roll it and store it in a labeled plastic box.

Following these tips, the coat will keep you warm and dry for the next few years.

Do I need to hang or fold winter clothes?

Summer item storage and folding guidelines are the same as for normal use. In general, fold anything that stretches or deforms when hung, and hangs anything that folds and wrinkles. Great for winter clothing. If space in your closet allows, wear a jacket or pleated skirt in cold climates. Otherwise, fold it. However, do not place it in a vacuum-sealed bag or container.

Once folded, add a layer of protection to vintage, delicate, or special items with acid-free tissue paper. Paper towels can also prevent color transitions and contouring when parts of clothing are decorated.
