Attempting to choose a jacket for your next adventure can be a challenge! With so many men's and women's ski jackets and casual jackets, it can be difficult to decide which one is best for you.

When it comes to the best winter clothes, there are many things to consider. Before heading to the next winter + ski deals to get your gear, check out the different types of breakdowns that will help you make the best choice for this winter.

Hard case

Hard shells are non-insulated, usually hooded jackets and are the most suitable jackets for activities such as snow and rain. They are usually waterproof and windproof, making them suitable for mild winter sports. The level of waterproofness and seam tape (to prevent moisture) helps determine the price of the jacket. For example, Gore-Tex material is great for keeping your body dry, but at a higher cost. Whatever waterproof level you choose, it's a good idea to choose a case that can hold a half-zip or padded jacket underneath to work well on cold days.

Soft shell

Softshell jackets are a more breathable option, but they are usually waterproof rather than waterproof like hardshells. Sound is an easy way to distinguish between the two. Hard shells are generally wrinkled and hard, while soft shells are quiet because of the soft fabric. The softshell jacket is designed to be more elastic to keep you cool while exercising. Soft shells often also include a soft lining or fleece lining to keep you warm. These are recommended for the middle class of cold winter activities and for everyday winter wear. These are great options for outdoor activities in dry weather, but they are less storable, lighter, and less water resistant than hard shells.

Wool jacket

Fleece is a soft material made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), a hydrophobic fiber that repels water. Breathable, lightweight and quick-drying make it ideal for outdoor activities. Some of the drawbacks of wool are that the hydrophobic material retains the odor and eventually the fabric curls up when washed. Wool is recommended for casual wear on hiking, cycling and other cool weather activities.

Insulation jacket

If you want to go on a serious cold adventure, such as skiing in Whistler Blackcomb, Canada, you may need an insulated jacket. This type of jacket usually has a waterproof outer layer and an insulating inner layer to keep the body warm at extreme temperatures. There are two basic types of insulation, down or synthetic, and there are different levels of insulation depending on your needs. Synthesis is a cheaper option and works well in the rain, making it suitable for snowy days. However, down is lighter and lasts longer than synthetic insulation.
